Debra Gonzalez

My name is Dr. Debra Gonzalez. I am a first grade Dual Language teacher at Poteet Elementary School. I have 12 years of teaching experience. It is a challenge to teach in two languages everyday, but a challenge with a priceless reward. I try my best to instill biliteracy and biculturalism in my students.

I received my Associate's degree at San Antonio College and later went to Texas A&M University San Antonio for my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies early childhood through 4th grade with an emphasis in Bilingual Education .

I think it’s important to understand who a child really is. I work to make them feel safe and loved in my classroom. Teaching for me is about getting the next generation ready for our community. I want them to be productive, kind, and compassionate adults one day.

Every year is a new group and a new challenge. One thing I always tell my students is if it isn't challenging we aren't growing, so must welcome a challenge.
