How It Works (K–5)

The Poteet ISD Dual Language Program is designed to give students the gift of bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural appreciation.

• Classroom Structure: Students spend part of their day learning in English and part in Spanish. This balanced approach ensures they master grade-level content while developing strong language skills in both languages.

• Subjects in Both Languages: Core subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies are taught in both languages, allowing students to apply knowledge across contexts.

• Peer Learning: Students learn alongside classmates with different home languages, creating a rich environment for collaboration and cultural exchange.

• Supportive Teachers: Each classroom is led by specially trained dual language teachers who guide students in building vocabulary, literacy, and confidence.

• Long-Term Benefits: By 5th grade, students in the program can read, write, and speak in two languages, opening doors for future academic, career, and life opportunities.
