District-Wide Educational Improvement Council

2025-2026 Meeting Schedule
Meeting Date: September 11th, 2025
Location: High School Library
Time: 4:30 pm
(Agenda)

In compliance with Education Code 11.251, the District-wide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) advises the Superintendent in establishing and reviewing the District’s educational goals, objectives, and major District-wide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board or its designee. The committee serves exclusively in an advisory role, except that the committee shall approve staff development of a District-wide nature.

The DEIC is chaired by the Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction. The chairperson is responsible for scheduling at least three meetings per year. Additional meetings may be held at the chairperson's call.

The committee is composed of members who represent campus-based professional staff, district-level professional staff, parents, businesses, and the community. At least two-thirds of the district and campus professional staff are classroom teachers. The remaining members are professional non-teaching staff at the district and campus levels.

The Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction ensures that the District-level committee obtains broad-based community, parent, and staff input and provides information to those persons on a systematic basis. Methods of communication shall include, but not be limited to:

  1. Periodic meetings to gather input and provide information on the work of the committee. These meetings shall be advertised in District publications and through the media.

  2. Publication of the agenda on the District’s website.

The committee includes two parents of students currently enrolled within the District; one community member who resides in the District; and two business representatives who operate businesses in the District.

The DEIC (District Educational Improvement Committee) is composed of a diverse group of members committed to supporting student success and continuous improvement across the district. The committee includes teachers from all four campuses, professional employees, two campus administrators, the McKinney-Vento liaison, the Special Education Director, and paraprofessionals representing various campuses. This well-rounded team ensures that multiple perspectives and areas of expertise are considered in district planning and decision-making.

Representatives serve staggered two-year terms on the committee. The existence of the District-level committee does not affect the authority of the Board or its designee to appoint or establish other advisory groups or task forces to assist it in matters about District instruction.

Please remit comments or questions regarding the District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC) to Sheryl Mills, Executive Director of  Curriculum & Instruction.
