Curriculum and Instruction Mission: "Whatever It Takes"

At Poteet ISD, our Curriculum and Instruction Department is dedicated to ensuring that our students receive the highest quality education. We are committed to aligning the written, taught, and tested curriculum to equip students with the academic skills and experiences necessary for high achievement. Our goal is to prepare students thoroughly for college and future careers. Our curriculum is developed based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) framework and supported by state-adopted resources. We strive to provide a robust educational foundation to help students excel. About Us

Executive Director- Sheryl Mills

 

 I have served my entire career in Poteet, Tx.  During my 30+year career, I have been a teacher, Instructional coach, ELAR Director and now Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  All of these positions centered around my passion for literacy and promoting student success. I am a graduate from The University of Texas in Austin and hold a masters in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas San Antonio.

District Special Education IS- Jessica Herrera

Hi, my name is Jessica Hernandez, I’m a Special Education Instructional Specialist. I graduated from Poteet, class of ‘03. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UTSA and my Master’s in Special Education from Midwestern State University. This is my 12th year in education. In previous districts, I have been a Special education teacher, Dyslexia Specialist, and Program Facilitator. I am excited to be back home and give back to my community.

Elementary I.S- Tracy Dunn

 

My name is Tracy Dunn.  I am a graduate of Poteet, Class of '95.  I earned my Bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in Agricultural Development, my EC-4 educator certification from Texas A&M Kingsville, my Master's Degree in Advanced Literacy from Concordia University, and an endorsement in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.  I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist for the State of Texas.  I have been at Poteet Elementary for several years where I have served as a kindergarten teacher, third-grade teacher, and dyslexia therapist.  I am truly happy to serve the families of Poteet ISD

 

Junior High I.S - Hope Tellez

My name is Hope Tellez. I am the Instructional Specialist for Poteet Jr. High. This is my 4th year as an Instructional Specialist for Poteet ISD and my 20th year in Education. I am home-grown, Poteet Alumni Class of '97. It is humbling to serve the community I grew up in by academically supporting some of the finest teachers and students around. 

High School IS- Virginia Rodriguez

Hello, my name is Virginia Rodriguez. I am an alumnus of Poteet High School, Class of ‘98. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas A&M- Kingsville in Interdisciplinary  Studies 4-8 ELAR and my master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in Educational Leadership. I have been an educator for 20 years, 16 years of those with Poteet ISD at the junior high and high school campuses. I’m honored to be able to support the teachers and students of my hometown.
